00:00Never in a million years would I have ever expected I'd be raising a deer.
00:04Ow! He's got teeth.
00:07He was out in the poison oak by himself and he started crying.
00:13We took it to the Wildlife Center and they confirmed that he was abandoned,
00:17but they didn't have space so they handed him back to us.
00:20My husband and I both looked at each other and said,
00:22oh dear, we have a deer, literally.
00:26I wanted to do it right. He's not a pet.
00:28My whole purpose was to keep him wild.
00:31He was out free during the day, but at night we set up an enclosure.
00:36Hi, Thor.
00:39He's bonding. This is what mamas and babies do at night before they bed down.
00:44It required a lot of reading up and asking questions and just being alert to what Thor was telling me.
00:51I just let him be himself.
00:54After about a month and a half, he said, I'm ready to be out at night by myself.
00:58He actually did great.
01:00After three months, the other fawns started coming around too.
01:03He was touching noses and he was playing with them and I was just so proud to see he was actually integrating with the herd.
01:09When Thor shows up after being gone, one of the most emotional things.
01:14It's just this great sense of relief, but also indescribable happiness.
01:19Here's this deer who's out being wild, but something inside of him reminded him to come visit mom.
01:25Hi, Thor.
01:26He now is three years old and I feel very blessed and very honored to have this connection.
