00:00Sea level rise is a huge issue impacting on the Pacific and even within my community, we no longer say climate change is in our backyard, we say climate change is in our homes.
00:13And now there's such a thing as climate trauma where our kids are actually going to sleep at night, concerned that they may wake up and find themselves underwater or their homes have been washed away from the sea.
00:27So rising ocean levels is a real reality for us and it's something that's immediate and urgent.
00:35All of the scientists, including the best of the NASA scientists, have certainly highlighted that the West Pacific in particular are going to be hugely impacted, already being hugely impacted by the rising tides that we are seeing.
00:50Essentially, we are now facing cyclones, you know, for the first time in 100 years in New Zealand.
00:59So all of these changes that are happening with our climate are definitely forcing us to really think about, you know, solutions that can allow us to adapt with the changes that are coming.
01:10For us, it's not just about science, it's actually about survival.
01:15And that I think is the one of the fundamental differences between people in the Pacific and elsewhere.
01:21We are on the front lines of climate, so it's vitally important that we come up with solutions.
